Cultvating Hearts of Pure Worship
Bert Han @berthan
Whether you are a worship leader or singing as part of the congregation, it can be very easy to stumble and fall into the void of singing empty words. It's also easy to get caught up in the busyness of preparing and delivering a worship set, and totally forgetting why we do it in the first place.
How do we cultivate a heart of pure worship where we bring our hearts into His sanctuary, whilst ministering to others and building a culture where Christ is at the centre of our serving?
This breakout explores the attitudes and approaches we should adopt when worshipping and serving God. We'll examine ways to maintain our focus on true worship amidst the practical demands of leading and being on team.
Being Faithful in Songwriting and Creativity
Jonathan Ogden, `Sam and Paige Tsui
@jonathanogdenmusic @samuelchtsui @paige___david
We are made as creative beings to express our worship of Him in many different ways. How can we use songwriting and creativity to fulfil the purpose God has for us? As we grow in the way we worship Him, it is important to remember that our expressions of our gladness and awe of God is not confined to just singing the songs of others, but we were created to express our worship of Him in different ways!
We hope this workshop can take people through the journey of how to start off creating and writing songs, how to cultivate that in a way that pleases God, and ultimately, how our songs and creative expressions can lead others to encounter the presence of God.
Spirit and Truth: Exploring Worship in Congregation and Culture
Josh Shek @josh_shek
God’s people have always sung their worship to Him - singing elevates our praise, consolidates our devotion, and helps invite His Spirit into our lives. But why do we gather to sing, and how does that transform our worship?
What does it mean to “worship in Spirit and truth?”; and how do we tell the difference between singing as mere cultural ritual or as sacrifice of the heart? Let's explore these questions together and discuss how we can better keep Jesus at the centre of it all.
Leadership and Preparation Done Well
Derek Law & Sam Lau @derekthlaw @alauit
We’re all called to be servants and leaders in some way or another; in this session we’ll talk about what the most important aspects of leadership are. How can we be sure we are leading people to the presence of God, and think beyond the practical? We’ll chat about the practices we can use to prepare well and make sure we offer God and the people around us our best.
Some of the topics we’ll cover are; how to share and impart your vision to others on your team, some of the dangers we may face when in a position of leadership, and what worldly success looks like versus what success looks like in the eyes of God.
lunchtime tech talks
Are you on the sound or visuals team at church, or just interested in the ministry of tech? Join us during lunchtime (location TBC) for a discussion on how we can grow in this ministry - in resources, in our ability, and most importantly, how we can use our passion and gifting to help people encounter Jesus.
It is a space to share ideas, meet like-minded people, and talk about some challenges and improvements in the tech side of church ministry!

2. Creating dynamics
3. Strumming Vs finger picking
4. To capo or not to capo?
5. How to get the best sound? ...and many more.
Some of us may be worship leaders (or thinking about it!) as well. In this workshop we will talk a bit about selecting the right songs for your set, creating flow through your songs, communicating effectively with fellow musicians and responding to the prompting of the spirit.
All levels of skill and competency are welcome. It's an open workshop where we all can share our experience and learn from each other.
We believe in serving our churches well; and through DOXA our underlying hope for you is that you would be refreshed by His Spirit as we encounter God (Acts 3:20), encouraged by the connections gained and conversations had (Hebrews 10:24-25), and that you will leave DOXA with newfound skills and teaching (2 Timothy 3:16-17) in order for you to go and love those whom God has called you to.
Saturday 14th Sept 2024
10am to 6pm
£35 per person
Lunch & refreshments included
Limited spaces available - sign up before 25th August!
The Heart of DOXA
Sanctuary comes from the ancient Hebrew word ‘mikdash’; which in its simplest meaning translates to ‘a holy place, set apart from the ordinary world’.
This year we will explore what it means to be set apart from the rest of the world as we worship Him, and what the costs are when we pursue this.
How do we begin to lead others into the holy presence of God so that they will be transformed?
DOXA | δόξα | n. glory, honour, praise
DOXA is a one-day worship conference run by, and for, Asian-heritage churches around the UK.
Having started in 2016, DOXA stands to equip and encourage the church in becoming the best servants that we can be — both in our own musical skill and our heart for His Kingdom.
It is a place where we can share in the challenges of being on a worship team and be equipped with the skills to serve our King. We do this through worshipping together, connecting with people around us, and teaching through workshops and sessions.
We know that worship should go far beyond the offering of our melodies, so our hope for DOXA is that we would learn and equip ourselves on how to give God the glory, honour, and praise that He deserves from us.
You may be wondering...
Can I still sign up?
Registration has now officially closed, but if you would like to come and haven’t got a space yet - please do contact us and we’ll try our best to squeeze you in! You can email us at samlau@thebcec.org.uk or send an Instagram DM via @doxa.conference
Who is DOXA for?
DOXA is aimed for people who have a passion for worship or who serve in worship teams in Asian-heritage churches. That being said, anyone and everyone is welcome to join! (Children under 13 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)
Will there be food?
A light lunch will be served, and refreshments throughout the day. You can also bring your own drinks and snacks. If you have dietary requirements, please do make them known on the registration form!
Is there free parking?
Yes, feel free to use the site’s car park and surrounding street parking.
I don’t have a car. How do I get there?
If you can’t hitch a ride with someone else, the closest train station is Duddeston (1 stop away from New Street Station). If you need a shuttle from Duddeston Station, please get in touch with Hollie - hollieleung@thebcec.org.uk - Please make sure you contact us before the day so we can make arrangements!
Who is DOXA run by?
DOXA is organised by BCEC (Birmingham Chinese Evangelical Church); and the planners and facilitators of DOXA are from many local churches across all of the UK.
Why the price?
Due to many rising costs with things such as venue and catering, unfortunately the price of DOXA this year had to be increased from previous years. If you are genuinely struggling to pay the fee, we don’t want that to be the reason you don’t come, so please reach out to the team at hollieleung@thebcec.org.uk and we will do our best to support you in every manner.
What is Anchor Point?
Unfortunately our own church building isn’t big enough to host DOXA (as we found out the hard way last year!) so we’ve recently teamed up with a local church, Anchor Point, to provide a space for us to host conferences and gatherings. Anchor Point Website
My question wasn’t answered!
Please email Sam at samlau@thebcec.org.uk and we will endeavour to answer any questions you may still have 😊
We are excited to see you at DOXA this year, please keep the day in prayer and we’ll see you there!
